HRBT Foundation recently completed a 5-year $50,000 grant cycle with The Olana Partnership in support of the $14.2 million campaign to design and construct the Frederic Church Center for Art & Landscape. The project represents the first new construction on the 250-acre Olana property since Church’s death in 1900.
The building will be located in a wooded area near Olana’s entrance and will provide orientation, ticketing and amenities that enhance the visitor experience and offer an introduction to the holistic vision of art, architecture and landscape that Church created at Olana over the last 40 years of his life.
The project is on track for a Fall 2024 opening.
Since its founding in 1971, The Olana Partnership has served as the non-profit partner of the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. That office designated the Frederic Church Center as a Statewide Priority Project to be highlighted as part of the 2024 NYS Parks Centennial Year.
As part of a suite of other projects enabled by OPRHP funding, the intention is to restore agricultural activity to the site, both as an essential element of Olana’s history, and as an opportunity to strengthen its cultural and civic engagement potential.
